CISFED: Indonesia Must Adopt a Firm Stance on US and Israeli Military Aggression Against Iran
JAKARTA – The Centre for Islamic Studies in Finance, Economics, and Development (CISFED) has issued a statement urging the Indonesian government to play an active role in halting military aggression conducted by the United States and Israel against Iran. The statement emphasises that the escalation of conflict in the Middle East is not merely a geopolitical issue but also a violation of international law that threatens global peace.
CISFED Chairman Farouk Abdullah Alwyni asserted that the unilateral use of force by the US and Israel violates the principle of national sovereignty and creates risks of global conflict. According to Farouk, Indonesia’s silence is no longer acceptable, given that the nation is known to uphold independence, justice, and peace.
Farouk called for Indonesia to take firm and consistent diplomatic steps. The country is urged to actively remind the United States that any use of military force without legitimate basis constitutes a violation of international law and to pressure an end to military aggression against Iran. Additionally, Indonesia is expected to condemn Israel’s actions that continue to exacerbate the conflict, demonstrate consistency in its moral stance and foreign policy, and assert a firm position on the international stage.
CISFED also encourages Indonesia to reduce geopolitical and geoeconomic dependence on the United States through diversification of strategic cooperation with Muslim and developing nations. This step is expected to strengthen national self-reliance whilst reducing the influence of single-power dominance in the region.
Moreover, Indonesia is advised to leverage public opinion in the United States, which tends to oppose its country’s military involvement, thereby opening opportunities for moral and diplomatic international pressure to halt aggression. Farouk added that Indonesia should promote the establishment of a multipolar world order that is fair and balanced, where every nation is treated equally and single-power dominance that permits aggression without accountability no longer exists.
Finally, CISFED emphasises the importance of Indonesia’s role as a regional dialogue facilitator, bridging communication between Iran, Gulf nations, and other regional parties. The goal is to build a security architecture based on justice, dialogue, and cooperation, in keeping with the principle of free and active foreign policy enshrined in Indonesia’s constitution.
Farouk asserted that history will record the stance of nations that remain silent when international law is violated. “It is time for Indonesia to demonstrate its leadership, not merely as an observer, but as an active actor that champions justice,” he said.
