Cisadane River Water Levels Drop 12 Percent During Dry Season

Water levels in the Cisadane River at the Pintu Air 10 monitoring point in Tangerang have dropped by 12 percent during the current dry season. The Cidurian Cisadane River Basin Management Office (BPDAS) has responded by closing all sluice gates at the Pasar Baru Weir. This measure aims to maintain raw water availability for the community and ensure that water levels upstream remain sufficient to supply water treatment plants and agricultural irrigation.

“The 12 percent decrease in water discharge is a phenomenon that always occurs during the dry season. However, conditions this year are more extreme due to lower rainfall compared to the previous year,” said Didik Purwanto, Head of the Cidurian Cisadane BPDAS, on Thursday (16/7).

Didik explained that his team is currently coordinating with the regional water utility company (PDAM) to carry out dredging or normalisation in the intake area. This step is intended to ensure that the raw water intake process remains optimal throughout the dry season. “This is done so that raw water extraction can continue maximally, ensuring the community’s needs and agricultural irrigation are met during the dry season,” Didik stated.

He confirmed that the current raw water supply for both public consumption and agricultural irrigation remains at a safe level. “Nevertheless, we are conducting regular monitoring of water discharge during this dry season. If drought conditions become more extreme, we will prepare anticipatory measures to ensure the raw water supply, irrigation needs, and flood control functions continue to operate properly,” Didik added. He also appealed to the public to conserve water usage as a collective effort to maintain water resource availability until the rainy season arrives.
