Cirebon's 'People's School' to accommodate 270 underprivileged students with boarding system

The Cirebon Regency Social Services Department (Dinsos) in West Java has stated that the People’s School currently being prepared in the region will accommodate 270 students from poor and extremely poor families for the 2026/2027 academic year.

The Head of Cirebon Regency Social Services, Hafidz Iswahyudi, said in Cirebon on Friday that the quota is divided across three educational levels to be held at the People’s School.

He explained that each level—primary, lower secondary, and upper secondary—will accept 90 students. Each level will consist of three study groups with a capacity of 30 students per class.

“Each level has three study groups, each containing 30 students,” he said.

Hafidz noted that all students will participate in a boarding school system, which is implemented as part of the People’s School programme.

Furthermore, he added that prospective students must reside in Cirebon Regency to ensure the programme reaches its intended targets.

“The outreach for prospective students is still being conducted by the Ministry of Social Affairs’ human resources, targeting recorded poor and extremely poor families,” he said.

On the other hand, he mentioned that the physical construction of the Cirebon Regency People’s School is still ongoing and is targeted for completion before teaching and learning activities commence.

Hafidz stated that the construction progress of the school has currently reached approximately 68 per cent, according to reports received by the local government.
