PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas) has been officially appointed as the operator of the Batang–Cirebon–Kandang Haur Timur natural gas pipeline, or Cisem II, after winning the tender for partner selection held by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).

Pertagas President Director Indra P Sembiring stated that the company has been operating Cisem I since 2023. This experience, he said, serves as crucial capital for managing the entire transmission pipeline network.

“The availability of integrated and reliable gas infrastructure is key to accelerating the national energy transition with natural gas,” Indra said, quoted from a written statement on Thursday, 7 May 2026.

He added that the gas supplied through the Cisem pipeline will meet the needs of industry and various other sectors for cleaner energy. Furthermore, the operation of this transmission pipeline is expected to add value to the upstream oil and gas sector and support national economic growth.

Indra further explained that the Cisem II pipeline is part of the National Strategic Project (PSN) aimed at integrating the national natural gas pipeline network. Previously, gas source locations and industrial consumption centres were in different regions. Therefore, the government is building connectivity through the Cirebon–Semarang Transmission Pipeline and the Gresik–Semarang Transmission Pipeline.

According to Indra, the existence of the approximately 242-kilometre Cisem II pipeline will be a game changer for the gas distribution system on Java Island.

“Because it is connected to Pertagas’s existing infrastructure in West Java, Central Java, and East Java, it will strengthen the reliability of energy infrastructure supply on Java Island,” he said.

The Cisem II pipeline is part of the Cirebon–Semarang Transmission Pipeline network. Previously, the Semarang–Batang section or Cisem I had already been operational.

Pertagas Technical and Operations Director Agung Indri Pramantyo stated that the Cisem II network is currently integrated with the Cisem I section in the Batang Integrated Industrial Estate (KITB), Central Java, and connected to the East Kandang Haur Station in West Java.

He added that this network integration not only strengthens energy supply for strategic sectors, such as refineries, fertiliser industries, and power plants, but also supports the government’s programme in developing household and SME gas networks along the pipeline route.

“This integration forms an integrated pipeline network system and provides operational flexibility and reliability of natural gas infrastructure,” Agung said.
