Cirebon resident's home catches fire while escorting nephew to wedding

A home business in Block Jonggrang, RT 004 RW 002, Plumbon Subdistrict, Cirebon Regency, was engulfed by fire on Tuesday (26 May 2026) at approximately 9:41 AM WIB. The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.

Eno Sujana, Head of the Fire Suppression, Rescue, and Infrastructure (PPSP) Division of the Cirebon Regency Fire and Rescue Department (Disdamkarmat), stated that according to homeowner Sutomo, the fire occurred while he was escorting his nephew, who was getting married, to Pamijahan.

‘Suddenly, Sutomo was contacted by his neighbour informing him that his house was on fire,’ Eno told Republika on Tuesday (26 May 2026).

Eno explained that the fire is believed to have originated from an electrical short circuit in the living room where there was a socket. The short circuit likely caused sparks that spread to the adjacent bed.

Firefighters from the Weru Sector responded to the report and arrived at the scene. Upon arrival, they found the fire still burning intensely and immediately began extinguishing all active flames.

On-site personnel requested assistance from the Palimanan and Sumber Sector fire brigades to ensure sufficient water supply and prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring properties due to the densely populated area.

The fire was eventually extinguished and cooled down until 10:30 AM WIB. There were no casualties, but the homeowner suffered approximately Rp 50 million in damages.

‘In addition to destroying a 120-square-metre structure, the fire also consumed household furnishings, including doll shop inventory, eyewear, and petrol,’ he said.
