Cirebon Religious Affairs Office Blocks 177 Stolen Marriage Book Blanks

The Cirebon City Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) has blocked the serial numbers of 177 marriage book blanks stolen from the Kesambi District Religious Affairs Office (KUA) to prevent their misuse and ensure they hold no legal force. Head of Community Guidance (Bimas) at the Cirebon City Kemenag, Yuto Nasikin, stated on Monday (27/7/2026) that his party is currently recording all the serial numbers of the missing blanks before reporting the incident to the West Java Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the central Ministry of Religious Affairs. He explained that the report is intended to ensure the stolen serial numbers are placed on a blocklist, so that any documents issued or used by unauthorized parties will be automatically declared invalid. “If it later appears or is used in the community, the marriage book will automatically be legally invalid,” he said. He suspects the perpetrator specifically targeted the marriage book blanks, as no electronic goods or other valuable assets in the office were taken. “If someone does not understand marriage books, why would they steal them? We are concerned the documents could be misused,” he stated. In addition to reporting the loss, the Cirebon City Kemenag has proposed a replacement of the blanks to ensure that marriage registration services at the Kesambi KUA continue to operate and do not disrupt couples who have registered their marriages. He assured that service needs can still be met, as the Cirebon City Kemenag has a reserve stock of blanks estimated to be sufficient for the next one to two months while awaiting the replacement shipment. Furthermore, the office has proposed the installation of window grilles, CCTV cameras, and an additional gate, as the office location is considered particularly vulnerable at night.
