Cirebon, West Java — The Cirebon Regency Government confirmed that the woman from Gombang Village, Cirebon, West Java, named Vina, has been repatriated to Indonesia after reportedly becoming a victim of arranged marriage practices in China. ‘Vina arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport around 13:55 WIB after undergoing the repatriation process,’ said Indra Fitriani, head of the DPPKBP3A Cirebon, on Friday. She said the victim is currently under government protection, after the pick-up was conducted by the Cirebon Regency DPPKBP3A together with DP2AKB and the West Java Police. During the repatriation, representatives of the victim’s family were also present at the airport to accompany Vina’s return. Fitriani said that upon arrival in Indonesia, the victim was immediately taken to a safe house to recover physically and psychologically. ‘Vina was immediately taken to a safe house for psychological rehabilitation and a health check by teams from DP2AKB West Java Province,’ she added. Fitriani explained that the incident had previously come to light after a video of Vina’s confession circulated on social media, in which she claimed to be a victim of suspected human trafficking (TPPO) in China. In the video, she reportedly pleaded for help to West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi so that she could be repatriated to Indonesia. She said that based on early information, the modus operandi used by the perpetrators involved approaching the victim and her family directly to offer marriage to a man abroad. ‘At the moment, the West Java Police are also conducting further actions to follow up on the alleged TPPO in the incident,’ she concluded.
