Cirebon Regency Government States Ciawigajah Waste Processing Facility Capable of Absorbing Local Labour

The Cirebon Regency Government in West Java has stated that the Ciawigajah Berkah Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (TPS 3R) facility in Beber District is capable of absorbing local labour through waste management based on a circular economy.

Cirebon Deputy Regent Agus Kurniawan Budiman stated on Thursday that the existence of this facility demonstrates that waste management impacts not only environmental improvement but also creates economic opportunities for the community. He noted that the development of the waste management sector holds great potential to support citizen welfare if implemented in a planned and sustainable manner.

“We appreciate the Ciaability Government and the TPS 3R managers who have successfully transformed waste issues into economic value for the community,” he said. He further explained that the waste management applied at the site serves as an example of the circular economy, integrating environmental aspects with community empowerment. This success proves that waste can become a productive resource when managed with a good system and supported by collaboration between various parties.

Agus noted that the Ciawigajah TPS 3R currently employs 30 local workers, with wages adjusted to the minimum wage regulations in Cirebon Regency. In addition to creating jobs, the facility is capable of processing up to 12 tonnes of waste per day without producing residue that must be sent to a landfill. “The success of Ciawigajah TPS 3R in managing up to 12 tonnes of waste per day without residue, while absorbing local labour, is a worthy model for other villages,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Head of Ciawigajah Village, Nunung Nurhadi, stated that waste management in his area is conducted using a zero-waste concept so that all waste can be reused. He explained that incoming waste is sorted using machinery to produce organic fertiliser and economically valuable inorganic materials, which are marketed through partnerships with several companies. “We also receive waste from outside Ciawigajah Village, with a processing capacity of up to 12 tonnes per day. The waste managed does not only originate from Ciawigajah but also from other areas, including Kuningan Regency,” he said.
