Cirebon Regency Ensures Support for Students at Sekolah Rakyat
The Cirebon Regency government in West Java has ensured that all students at the Integrated Sekolah Rakyat 1 in the region will receive mentorship throughout their educational process, as part of an effort to support the development of a smart, independent, and character-driven generation.
Speaking in Cirebon on Sunday, the Regent of Cirebon, Imron, confirmed that students will be guided and accompanied during their studies at Sekolah Rakyat. He noted that the government has currently opened the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) and the Open House for the Integrated Sekolah Rakyat 1 Cirebon Regency for the 2026/2027 academic year.
“Children will be guided, educated with care, and accompanied with full responsibility so that they grow into a generation that is intelligent, characterised, independent, and possesses noble morals,” he said.
He added that Sekolah Rakyat is one of the government’s strategic programmes designed to increase access to quality education for children from poor and extremely poor families. “This programme is a tangible effort by the government to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty through quality education,” he stated.
Imron expressed his hope that the Sekolah Rakyat in his region would become a place where a generation capable of developing their potential and realising their ambitions can flourish.
Meanwhile, Suratna Kuswanti, Director of Social Rehabilitation for the Elderly at the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs, stated that Sekolah Rakyat is a mandate from the President of the Republic of Indonesia to improve community welfare through education. According to him, Sekolah Rakyat does not merely provide educational facilities but also serves as a space to build hope for children from underprivileged families.
“The presence of Sekolah Rakyat is part of a direct mandate from the President of the Republic of Indonesia and a strategic step by the state to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty,” Kuswanti said.
According to local government data, the Sekolah Rakyat in Cirebon Regency features four dormitory units with a capacity of 544 beds, 12 classrooms, six laboratories, a dining hall with 576 seats, a mosque, internet access, and support for water, electricity, and security systems. The school currently accommodates 540 students from Cirebon Regency and City, Majalengka, and Kuningan.
