Cirebon Intensifies 'Jumantik' Programme to Suppress Dengue Fever Spread

The Cirebon District Health Office (Dinkes) is intensifying its ‘one house, one larva monitor’ (jumantik) programme to suppress the spread of dengue haemorrhagic fever (DBD). Mona Isabella Saragih, Head of the Disease Prevention and Control Division at Dinkes Kabupaten Cirebon, stated on Thursday (2/7) that fogging only kills adult mosquitoes, while eggs and larvae remain, allowing mosquitoes to reappear days later. Therefore, she stressed that residents must eradicate Aedes aegypti mosquito nests down to the eggs and larvae. The programme aims to encourage community participation in preventing the spread of mosquitoes and maintaining environmental cleanliness, including eliminating breeding sites. ‘The key to suppressing the spread of dengue is maintaining environmental cleanliness, so the downward trend in cases can be sustained,’ Mona said. Regarding case numbers, she revealed that up to the 25th week or mid-June 2026, there were 350 recorded dengue cases in Cirebon District, with one fatality. This represents a significant decrease compared to the same period in 2025, which saw 687 cases and one death. Plumbon sub-district recorded the highest number of cases at 42, followed by Sumber with 29, Weru with 23, Jamblang with 22, and Susukan with 17. The single fatality occurred in Gegesik sub-district. Despite the decline, Mona urged the public to remain vigilant and actively maintain environmental hygiene, warning that cases could rise again if prevention efforts are not consistent. She advised residents to regularly drain water containers, cover potential mosquito breeding sites, and eliminate or recycle used items that can collect rainwater. ‘DBD control should not rely solely on fogging. The Health Office prioritises Mosquito Nest Eradication (PSN) through the 3M Plus movement, as it is considered more effective in breaking the Aedes aegypti breeding cycle,’ she concluded.
