Cirebon-Indramayu road dangerous

CIREBON, West Java: The 50 kilometer section of highway between Cirebon and Indramayu is in bad condition and will be prone to traffic congestion during the forthcoming Idul Fitri holidays, police warned yesterday.

Cirebon police chief Col. Sawal Hariadi said that during two weeks before and two nights after the Idul Fitri public holidays, which fall on March 3-4, the section will be closed to vehicles from Central Java.

The 50 kilometer stretch of road has many large potholes, bridges under construction and expansion projects in process, he told reporters.

This section is part of Java's busy northern lane which several million holidaymakers in tens of thousands of vehicles will use during the peak days of the holiday season.

"This section of road is especially dangerous for motorists at night when they are tired," he said, Antara reported. (pan)
