Cirebon City Government intensifies QRIS campaign through running event
The Cirebon City Government in West Java is intensifying its campaign for the use of the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) through a running event that combines sport with the introduction of digital transactions to the public.
Cirebon Mayor Effendi Edo said on Tuesday that the event, titled Cirebon QRIS Run 2026, serves as a means to introduce the use of QRIS in everyday payment activities while encouraging the public to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
“This is a very positive activity. The public can exercise while gaining an understanding of how to use QRIS,” he said.
According to him, the introduction of QRIS needs to be carried out through activities that are close to the community so that the use of digital payments increasingly becomes part of daily economic activity.
He said the use of QRIS is also linked to the development of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as the payment method provides a practical transaction option for consumers.
“We want activities that involve the community to continue and have an impact, including for our MSMEs,” he said.
He assessed that the collaboration between the Cirebon City Government and Bank Indonesia in the activity could provide broader benefits, particularly in encouraging the public to switch to more practical transactions through digital payment systems.
He said the event was held on Sunday (16/8) and was attended by around 2,000 participants from various areas in the Cirebon, Indramayu, Majalengka and Kuningan (Ciayumajakuning) region.
“The activity is part of the Tri Karsa Festival 2026 series, which takes place from 14 to 17 August,” he said.
Meanwhile, Head of the Bank Indonesia Cirebon Representative Office Wihujeng Ayu Rengganis said the Cirebon QRIS Run is the first running event organised by her office to introduce QRIS to the public more widely.
She explained that QRIS has the tagline CeMuMuAH, which stands for fast, easy, cheap, safe and reliable. These characteristics make QRIS suitable for various public transaction needs.
Wihujeng noted that QRIS usage in the Ciayumajakuning region continues to show positive development, with QRIS transaction values reaching Rp15.06 trillion by June 2026, a 284 percent increase compared to the previous year.
“This achievement is extraordinary. We certainly hope the public becomes increasingly accustomed to using QRIS in transactions, including when shopping at MSMEs,” she said.
