Cirebon Child Offenders to Serve Community Service Sentences
Cirebon – The Cirebon City Government has formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cirebon Class 1 Correctional Facility (Bapas) regarding the implementation of community service and public service sentences for child offenders.
This strategic move shifts the legal paradigm from conventional approaches to a more humane restorative justice framework for children’s future.
Mayor Effendi Edo stressed that the agreement is not merely an administrative ceremony or paper exercise. For him, policy accountability is proven when its impacts are widespread and directly felt by the community.
‘I urge all officials, particularly at the regional agencies, to ensure this momentum is not just a box-ticking exercise after the MoU is signed. We must know what future programmes are needed and how we can collectively restore and resolve existing cases,’ Effendi stated on Saturday, 30 May 2026.
Specifically, Effendi instructed the Cirebon City’s Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, Population Control and Family Planning Agency (DP3APPKB) to take immediate tactical steps. Intensive communication and coordination must be accelerated to align local programmes with relevant vertical institutions.
The directive was given in front of all Regional Agency Heads during a leadership meeting with the city secretary.
Through this institutional collaboration, Cirebon City Government is committed to delivering integrated solutions for children’s social issues while fostering responsive and collaborative governance.
