Ciracas homeowner briefly held stray bullet: still hot

The incident occurred on Wednesday (20/5) at 09.50 WIB. A resident of Gang Nangka, Kelapa Dua Wetan, picked up a bullet that had fallen from the ceiling and lay near her child’s feet.

“I touched it. The bullet was still hot. Only the tip was bent,” Hamidah told detikcom at her home on Saturday (23/5/2026).

She explained the stray bullet had a brass-like colour. It was not very large — about one and a half finger-widths. “Not even two finger widths. On the little finger, about one and a half finger widths. The bullet looked brass, the bullet material. I touched it spontaneously; it was hot. I just observed, but since I am a layperson, I didn’t understand, didn’t notice, didn’t see the serial number,” she said. “After the incident, many friends asked, ‘Did you see the serial number?’ I didn’t know.” She also asked the police about the bullet. Hamidah said the police tried to reassure her. “But yesterday I asked the police, ‘Is it okay, ma’am?’ They said yes,” she added. The stray bullet has since been taken by the Ciracas Police from Polsek Ciracas. The bullet will undergo forensic testing. The scene with Hamidah and her child in the living room. Hamidah also recounted the moment the stray bullet entered her home around 09:50 WIB. She said there was a sound like a firecracker. “At first it sounded like an explosion, like a firecracker — not too loud, not too quiet… a small sound. Then I was surprised. I didn’t know there was a bullet yet. When I looked up, I saw the bullet,” she explained. Hamidah then tried to determine the bullet’s origin. After looking at the ceiling, she noticed a hole in the ceiling believed to be due to a stray bullet penetration. “I was sitting here. So the bullet was here in front of me. Here, my younger child was sleeping here. But the head is here, the feet on the other side. So it was right beside the child’s feet,” she said.
