Ciputra prepares new leisure park
JAKARTA (JP): Within the next 10 years Jakarta will have one
of the largest integrated leisure parks in Asia located in Ancol
Dreamland, North Jakarta.
Prominent businessman Ciputra, who is developing the area in
the northern part of Jakarta through his company PT Pembangunan
Jaya Ancol, said yesterday that new tourist facilities are being
planned for Ancol Dreamland.
"For instance, Dunia Fantasi, an amusement park in Ancol
Dreamland, will be doubled from its current size. We also plan to
set up a family center and a shopping center combined with the
existing recreation center," he said.
He said that another shopping center, indoor recreation
center, four new hotels, a convention and exhibition center, food
court would be built on a 35-hectare site currently being used as
a golf course.
The project, scheduled to start next year, is expected to cost
Rp 1 trillion (US$428 million) over 10 years, he said.
Pembangunan Jaya, which is controlled by the city
administration, announced last year that it would reclaim 300
hectares of the Ancol coast over the next 10 years to expand
Ancol Dreamland.
Ancol Dreamland was established on 550 hectares of swampland
in the Ancol area, which was converted by Pembangunan Jaya in the
1960s. (icn)
