The Special Committee (Pansus) of the South Tangerang City DPRD has requested that the South Tangerang City Government normalise the river after discovering changes to the flow in the Ciputat River, Bintaro.

Ahmad Syawqi, from the Pansus for the Draft Regional Regulation (Raperda) on the Spatial Planning Plan (RTRW) of the South Tangerang DPRD, stated that he had proposed river normalisation during a hearing for opinions (RDP) held on Wednesday (22/4/2026), as a follow-up to the field inspection in the area.

“We are pushing for river normalisation there so that the spatial function does not change,” said Ahmad Syawqi, when contacted by Kompas.com via WhatsApp on Thursday (23/4/2026).

The change in the river’s flow is suspected to impact the irrigation system in the surrounding Pondok Aren area, including the Maharta area which is frequently flooded.

“That’s Maharta and its surroundings, which also flood. That’s the effect on northern Pondok Aren, because that’s the Ciputat River flow,” he said.

Therefore, normalisation is needed to ensure that the river flow remains functional and connected to the city’s drainage system.

“This normalisation is to ensure that the city’s irrigation and drainage system can be integrated with the existing rivers,” he explained.

“The river must remain a river. That’s what we want to maintain,” he said.

During the RDP, the Bintaro area developers reportedly submitted documents related to the river flow changes, including permits from the ministry.

However, the Pansus is still requesting additional documents to ensure the legality and obligations of the developers, including regarding the handover of replacement assets.

“We are still waiting for supporting documents. There are several matters that we need to delve into,” Syawqi said.

To date, the discussion has not yet resulted in a final decision.

Meanwhile, the developers stated that they would be cooperative and ready to complete the documents requested by the DPRD.

“For the next stage, we are waiting, but JRP will be very cooperative,” said Virona Pinem, from the planning division management of PT Jaya Real Property Tbk (JRP), briefly.
