Ciputat overpass to be built January

TANGERANG: The Tangerang regency administration hopes construction work on the Ciputat overpass can start in January as it will complete the acquisition of land affected by the project next month.

Ciputat district chief Muhamad said on Wednesday that residents would receive their compensation in October.

"The regency land agency has disbursed some of the Rp 21.8 billion (US$2.4 million) allocated as compensation for land belonging to 120 families," he said.

The project was postponed for a year after landowners initially refused compensation of Rp 1.4 million per square meter, in accordance with the land tax value.

The overpass is expected to overcome chronic traffic congestion around Ciputat market. -- JP
