Cipondoh Swamp Lake Tourist Area Becomes Increasingly Deserted, Residents Urge Government Intervention
TANGERANG — Residents assess that the Wisata Rawa Danau Cipondoh area in Tangerang City is receiving insufficient attention from the government. The increasingly deserted condition of the site, coupled with damaged and neglected facilities, has led to a continuous decline in tourist activities in the area.
Several bamboo structures in the area appear weathered and no longer usable. Some traders’ stalls are even left empty without maintenance, while access roads to the location are damaged in several spots.
This situation discourages both visitors and traders from coming to the tourist site.
Usuf Sulaiman (38), a resident who has been selling coffee in the area for 20 years, stated that there has been no significant improvement since the area began to be abandoned by visitors.
According to him, the area was previously bustling and served as one of Tangerang’s tourist destinations. The scenic views at the location attracted visitors.
However, over time, activities in the location have declined. Traders and visitors have decreased without adequate handling.
He mentioned that to date, there is no clarity on the government’s plans regarding the redevelopment of the area, even as its condition continues to deteriorate.
Rika Sahara (32), a fishing gear trader who is still holding on at the location, expressed similar sentiments. She hopes for repair efforts to revive the area and attract visitors again.
“I hope it gets fixed so it becomes lively like before,” said Rika.
According to Rika, without redevelopment, the area will be increasingly abandoned. She considers facility repairs and a redesign of the tourism concept to be important for reviving activities there.
“If it’s managed, there’s actually someone, but just cleaning. But now, there’s no one from the government asking to clean it,” she said.
“I’ve heard rumours that it’s going to be built like the one in front. Like the Keong house, that’s what they say, but I don’t know when,” she explained.
Tourist activities that were once attractions, such as cuisine and water rides, are now no longer operating. This condition has made the area even more deserted.
She also urged the government to take immediate steps to repair and redevelop the Wisata Rawa Danau Cipondoh so that it does not become increasingly neglected.
“If possible, it should still be made a tourist spot so it becomes lively like before. So, if possible, the government can fix it quickly,” she said.
