Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Cipinang Class I Prison has transferred 87 high-risk category inmates to Nusakambangan, Central Java.

“This transfer is part of risk mitigation and security restructuring. We are ensuring that the entire process is carried out professionally, in accordance with procedures, and while still considering humanitarian aspects,” said the Head of Cipinage Class I Prison, Syarpani, in Jakarta on Thursday.

This step is an effort to strengthen risk mitigation regarding security disturbances and order within the correctional environment, as well as part of a strategy to create a more conducive inmate arrangement.

“A safe environment is the foundation for ensuring that rehabilitation and services can run optimally. This transfer is not merely a change of location, but part of a measured security strategy,” Syarpani added.

Of the total 87 inmates being moved, 70 originated from the Cipinang Class I Prison, while the remainder came from other prisons and detention centres within the Jakarta region.

The entire departure process was centralised at Cipinang Prison with multi-layered security involving the Directorate General of Corrections, the Jakarta Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections, the East Jakarta Metro Police, and correctional unit ranks across Jakarta.

“Handling high-risk inmates requires measured control and synergy between departments. We are ensuring that every stage is executed with high vigilance so that the stability of correctional security remains maintained,” said Wachid.

This transfer is also part of the implementation of the 15 Action Programmes of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, specifically focusing on strengthening security and eradicating drug trafficking and fraudulent actors using various modes within prisons and detention centres.

Through risk-based inmate management, Cipinang Prison is committed to building a correctional environment that is safe, orderly, and supports optimal rehabilitation.
