Cipinang Prison Supports the National Police's Criminal Investigation Unit in Uncovering the Etomidate Vape Case
Cipinang Class I Prison has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and the use of illegal communication devices within the prison. This commitment is demonstrated through its full support for the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) in investigating the alleged circulation of etomidate vape.
The case originated from an investigation conducted by Bareskrim at a nightclub in the Tanjung Duren Selatan area, Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta, on Friday, March 6th. The investigation revealed indications of the involvement of an inmate from Cipinang Prison.
In response to these findings, the Head of Cipinang Class I Prison, Wachid Wibowo, immediately instructed his staff to coordinate intensively with the police. As a concrete step, security officers conducted a surprise raid on the residential block of the inmate in question.
“We immediately took swift action to coordinate and collaborate with Bareskrim to support the investigation of this case. Internal security, raids, and control measures were immediately implemented as a form of seriousness in maintaining the integrity of the correctional system,” said Wachid while leading the raid on Thursday, May 14th.

Wachid emphasized that they will not tolerate any violations, no matter how small. The “Zero Tolerance” commitment (against mobile phones, extortion, and drugs) is being strengthened through layered supervision and early detection.
“There is no tolerance for drugs or illegal mobile phones. If further investigation reveals the involvement of other parties, including officers, they will be dealt with firmly in accordance with applicable laws,” he said.
This proactive step is also part of the implementation of the 15 Action Programs of the Directorate General of Corrections in 2026. The main focus is to eradicate drug trafficking and various forms of fraud controlled from within correctional institutions.
