Cipinang Prison and Police Uncover Ecstasy Distribution in Nightclubs
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Cipinang Class I Penitentiary, Jakarta, together with the Directorate of Narcotics Criminal Investigation (Dittipidnarkoba) of the National Police Headquarters, successfully uncovered the distribution of ecstasy and vape containing etomidate in two nightclubs in West Jakarta.
“We successfully uncovered the practice of distributing ecstasy and vape containing etomidate through a joint operation between the Directorate of Narcotics Criminal Investigation (Dittipidnarkoba) of the National Police Headquarters and Cipinang Penitentiary,” said the Head of Cipinang Class I Penitentiary, Wachid Wibowo, in a written statement in Jakarta, Friday.
According to him, this operation is a real implementation of the 15 Action Programs of the Directorate General of Immigration and Correctional in 2026, especially in efforts to eradicate drugs and various fraud schemes involving organised networks.
“Specifically, in combating drugs and various fraud schemes in the environment of Penitentiaries and Detention Centres,” said Wachid.
Wachid said that supervision at Cipinang Class I Penitentiary continues to be tightened through a multi-layered surveillance system, early detection, routine raids, and strict action against every form of violation.
He also said that there is no tolerance for drug trafficking, the use of illegal cell phones, or other irregularities within the correctional environment.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Narcotics Investigation Centre (NIC) Task Force of the National Police, Kombes Pol Kevin Leleury, said that the disclosure of this drug network was the result of intensive coordination with Cipinang Class I Penitentiary.
The initial information regarding drug trafficking in several nightclubs was immediately followed up with further investigations and examinations.
“This disclosure is the result of good coordination with the Penitentiary, so that the case of ecstasy and vape containing etomidate can be uncovered quickly,” said Kevin.
He explained that this network is an organised syndicate that has been carrying out its illegal activities for quite some time and targeting several nightclubs in West Jakarta.
After further investigation, the authorities managed to secure the perpetrators and evidence for further investigation.
“Currently, the perpetrators and a number of pieces of evidence have been secured for further investigation,” said Kevin.
“The support provided by the Penitentiary made it easier for us in this disclosure,” said Kevin.
Previously, the Directorate of Narcotics Criminal Investigation of the Criminal Investigation Agency of the National Police had also uncovered a drug trafficking network that was allegedly operating for years in one of the nightclubs in the B Fashion Hotel area, Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta. The disclosure was carried out using the “undercover buy” method.
“Undercover buy” is a disguise technique carried out by law enforcement officers to buy illegal goods from the target perpetrators.
In that operation, a total of 14 suspects were successfully secured from several different locations. The police suspect that this network has a neat and organised distribution system, so it was able to operate for a long time before finally being uncovered.
Currently, all the suspects are still undergoing further investigation to uncover the possibility of involvement of a wider network, including the flow of drug distribution to various other entertainment venues in Jakarta.
