Cipete scavengers poisoned

JAKARTA (JP): Scores of Cipete Utara residents in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, were reportedly poisoned and required hospitalization, after eating packet meals consisting of rice, eggs and vegetables, donated by an unidentified couple on Saturday.

The residents, comprised several children, belonged mostly to scavenger families from neighborhood communities 08, 07, 03 and 02 of Cipete Utara.

Fatmawati Hospital records stated that until late Saturday evening, at least 42 people, suffering from diarrhea and vomiting, were hospitalized after the alleged food poisoning.

Residents at Cipete Utara said that some 200 packet meals had been donated by an unidentified couple, who arrived in the neighborhood in a blue minivan at 11 a.m.

Three hours after eating the food, the residents began to vomit and suffer from dizziness.

To date, no one in Cipete nor the police know who the couple are. (ylt)
