Cipayung Landfill in Depok Engulfed in Flames
A major fire has broken out at the Cipayung final disposal site (TPA) in Depok, West Java. The head of operational control at the Depok Fire and Rescue Service, Tessy Haryati, confirmed that firefighters are currently struggling to extinguish the large blaze. “For now, four fire engines with 16 personnel have been deployed,” Tessy said on Thursday. Units were dispatched from the Cipayung, Depok headquarters, and Cinere fire stations after the service received a report at 8.23 pm Western Indonesia Time. “The extinguishing process is still ongoing, please pray for us,” she added. Video footage shared on the service’s Instagram account shows flames burning intensely with thick smoke billowing from the landfill. Firefighters were seen continuously spraying water onto the fire. The cause and chronology of the incident remain unknown as the team is prioritising the firefighting operation.
