Cipali Toll Road on H+4 Lebaran: Traffic Drops 27%, Rest Areas Still Crowded
JAKARTA – Traffic flow on the Cikopo–Palimanan (Cipali) toll road section was observed to be easing by Thursday morning (26/3/2026) on H+4 Lebaran, although congestion persisted at several points.
Based on data from 00:00 to 08:00 WIB, approximately 21,000 vehicles were recorded passing the former Cikopo toll gate towards Jakarta.
Meanwhile, 5,000 vehicles were recorded passing the former Cikopo toll gate towards Cirebon.
Ardam Rafif Trisilo, Head of Sustainability Management & Corporate Communications Department at Astra Tol Cipali, stated that the cumulative traffic volume this morning had decreased compared to the previous day.
“Cumulatively, the traffic volume this morning is monitored to be 27 percent lower than the previous day,” Ardam said in an official statement on Thursday (26/3/2026).
Physical fatigue among returnees from long journeys from the east towards Jakarta has led some drivers to choose to rest on the roadside or at rest areas upon entering the Cipali toll road section.
To maintain smooth traffic flow, Astra Tol Cipali, together with local police, is implementing a situational open-close system at all rest areas, both towards Cirebon and Jakarta.
The affected rest area points include KM 86, KM 102, KM 130, and KM 166 for the Cirebon direction, as well as KM 164, KM 130, KM 101, and KM 77 for the Jakarta direction.
If rest areas are full, road users are advised not to stop on the shoulder or force queues on the main lane towards the rest areas, as this could worsen congestion.
As an alternative, road users are suggested to utilise rest facilities outside the nearest toll gates.
Astra Tol Cipali assures that toll tariffs remain calculated based on distance travelled, so there is no change in costs even if users exit and re-enter the toll road for resting.
Road users are also urged to remain vigilant, maintain safe distances, and ensure their physical condition and vehicle are in prime condition before continuing their journey.
