Cimuning Bekasi LPG Bulk Filling Station Fire Kills 6, Expert: Could Enter Criminal Realm
BEKASI, KOMPAS.com – The case of the fire at the Bulk LPG Filling Station (SPBE) of PT Indogas Andalan Kita in the Cimuning area, Bekasi City, has the potential to enter the criminal realm.
Employment expert Timboel Siregar stated that this could occur if elements of negligence are found in the incident.
“It could enter the criminal realm if there are elements of negligence by the business owner in ensuring a safe working area for workers and the public,” Timboel said when contacted by Kompas.com by telephone on Tuesday (21/4/2026).
If supervision is not carried out maximally, then the potential for negligence also lies with the labour inspectors.
“This could also become part of the criminal process,” Timboel said.
Nevertheless, Timboel emphasised that determining the criminal element must still await the results of the police investigation.
He assessed that the examination process needs to be carried out comprehensively, involving various parties.
“The police must also question the labour inspectors and the business owner regarding compliance with OHS standards,” he said.
In addition to the criminal aspect, Timboel also highlighted the rights of residents affected by the fire to demand compensation for the damage they suffered.
“Residents can demand compensation for damage to their property,” he said.
He noted that victims who died due to work accidents are entitled to compensation in accordance with applicable provisions.
“The heirs of the victims are entitled to work accident compensation of 48 times the wage, scholarships for children, and periodic pension guarantees,” he said.
However, if the workers are not registered with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, then that responsibility must be fulfilled directly by the business owner.
