Cimande bridge closed for repairs

BOGOR (JP): The 45-meter-long and seven-meter-wide Cimande bridge, the major connection between Ciawi and Sukabumi, will be temporarily closed to traffic from next Thursday until end of this year.

Head of the road construction agency of the West Java Public Works Rohman said on Friday repair work on the 10-year-old steel construction bridge was expected to be accomplished in December.

"An emergency bridge has been built nearby to accommodate the heavy flow of vehicle traffic from Ciawi and Cibadak and vice versa," he said.

Located at the KM 24 of Jl. Ciawi-Cibadak, the repair work started in early August, he added.

Both construction work on the bridge and the emergency bridge would cost about Rp 868 million, Rohman said.

"Only vehicles with a maximum weight of 15 tons would be allowed to pass through the emergency bridge," he explained, meaning that trailers, container trucks and petrol tankers would be prohibited from using it. (21/bsr)
