The Cimahi City Government will conduct strict monitoring of the raw materials, processing, and distribution of free nutritional food (MBG) during Ramadan. This follows a food poisoning incident that affected elementary and junior high school students after consuming MBG on Wednesday (February 25th).

“Monitoring will be intensified, especially during Ramadan when the time gap between production and consumption can affect food quality,” said the Deputy Mayor of Cimahi, Adhitia Yudisthira, on Thursday (February 26th).

During Ramadan, he said, there needs to be an adjustment in the type of food distributed. Considering that not all recipients consume the food immediately before breaking their fast, the risk of food quality deterioration must be anticipated.

“Because it is prepared in the morning or afternoon and consumed at iftar, there is a potential for the food to become unsuitable if the type is not appropriate,” he explained.

He urged SPPG to prioritize distributing snacks or dry food that is not at risk of spoiling, but still meets the applicable nutritional and quality standards.

As of now, the number of victims of the MBG food poisoning has reached 42 students and 1 teacher. All victims have been receiving treatment since Wednesday night in several hospitals in Cimahi. They come from several schools that receive MBG, including TK PGRI, TK Kartika, SDN Cimahi Mandiri 4, SDN Karangmekar 5, and SMPN 6 Cimahi.

The MBG menu that the students received included onigiri or rice balls, boiled eggs, apples, dates, and pure milk. Consumption times varied, from 11:00 AM, 3:00 PM, to around 5:00 PM.

The police are working hard to investigate the case in a transparent and professional manner.
