Cimahi Adjusts Traffic Management as Underpass Construction Congestion Eases

Changes to the traffic management scheme supporting the construction of the Gatot Subroto Underpass and repairs to the Rd. Demang Hardjakusumah Bridge in Cimahi, West Java, had a significant impact on traffic flow on Thursday afternoon (20/8/2026). No severe congestion occurred during peak hours, unlike the previous day.

The traffic adjustments were implemented by the Cimahi Transportation Agency together with the Indonesian National Armed Forces and Police around the underpass construction site. Initially, vehicles from Jalan Amir Machmud heading towards Jalan Gatot Subroto in the direction of the Baros Toll Gate and other areas such as Leuwigajah were directed through Jalan Sukimun–Jalan Bapa Ampi and Jalan Baros.

However, due to vehicle build-up causing severe congestion during peak hours, traffic flow was split. Vehicles are now able to pass through Jalan Gedong Opat and Jalan Sriwijaya via the underpass, which was previously one-way and has been converted to contraflow.

Alternative route diversions remain unchanged, including via Jalan Padasuka Indah–Padasuka Flyover–Jalan Pojok Dustira–Jalan Warung Contong–Jalan Sudirman–Jalan Urip Sumoharjo–Jalan Taman Kartini–Jalan Baros, and via Jalan Usman Dhomiri–Jalan Kebon Manggu–Padasuka Flyover–Jalan Pojok Dustira–Jalan Warung Contong–Jalan Sudirman–Jalan Urip Sumoharjo–Jalan Taman Kartini–Jalan Baros. Heavy vehicles continue to be directed via Jalan Amir Machmud–Jalan Mahar Martanegara towards the Baros Toll Gate or directly via the Pasirkoja Toll Gate.

The diversion resulting from the closure of Jalan Rd. Demang Hardjakusumah due to bridge maintenance remains unchanged. All vehicles are directed via Jalan Daeng Ardiwinata (Cihanjuang) towards Jalan Amir Machmud.

Deputy Mayor of Cimahi Adhitia Yudisthira stated that joint personnel deployed on the ground have been reinforced to manage traffic flow. The traffic management scheme will remain in effect throughout the construction period.

“Additional personnel for traffic management have been deployed from the Cimahi city government, police and the armed forces,” Adhitia said when contacted.

He has also coordinated with the underpass construction contractor regarding the possible use of one lane of Jalan Gatot Subroto while no major demolition work is underway. His office will also coordinate with the West Java Provincial Highways and Spatial Planning Agency.

“I am trying to lobby so that during the construction process, if there is no massive road demolition yet, this lane can be used by vehicles, which would at least help disperse vehicle build-up,” Adhitia said.
