Ciliwung River Dries Up at Katulampa Weir, Bedrock Exposed

The water level of the Ciliwung River at the Katulampa Weir in Bogor, West Java, has dropped to zero centimetres, exposing the riverbed’s large rocks. The drastic shrinkage is attributed to the lack of rain in the upstream Puncak area for the past two weeks. “The water level is zero centimetres, so the riverbed is visible,” said Subhan, an officer at the Katulampa Weir. He noted that the dry conditions have also revealed significant sedimentation on the riverbed, prompting plans for a community work project to excavate the sediment. To prevent the river from drying up completely and to protect the ecosystem, water flow from the upstream Ciliwung River is being prioritised for the Kali Baru irrigation channel. Subhan explained that water is being diverted to ensure the Kali Baru channel does not run dry during the prolonged dry season.
