Ciliwung River Dries Up Amid Dry Season; Explosion in Indian Hydropower Tunnel

The Ciliwung River has receded drastically as a result of the dry season. The depletion of water flow is one of the initial impacts of the dry season now being felt in several regions, including the upstream area of the Ciliwung River Basin. Meanwhile, an explosion, suspected to be caused by methane gas, collapsed a tunnel at a hydropower project in Sikkim, India. The incident resulted in 12 fatalities, while several workers remain trapped. According to a district official, the explosion filled the tunnel with thick smoke and toxic gas, complicating the evacuation process.
