Ciledug market to be renovated
TANGERANG (JP): A private developer announced yesterday that it would rebuild Ciledug market in Tangerang at a cost of Rp 15 billion (US$4.4 million).
PT Dian Bermakna Utama's marketing manager, Ganjar Sutardi, said that the new market would be built on the existing site.
The new market will cover 8,000-square-meters, in a two-story building with 622 kiosks.
Ganjar said gold and clothing traders would be housed on the first floor, and fruit and vegetable sellers on the second.
"We will operate the market for 30 years under the build- operate-and-transfer system and, after that, we will return the facility to the Tangerang mayoralty," he said.
He said rent for kiosks would vary from Rp 6 million to Rp 60 million depending on size and location.
He said the market would be equipped with a 500-square-meter parking lot.
Mayoralty spokesman Harry Mulya Zein said former traders would be given priority access to operate at the rebuilt market.
"The current market is no longer convenient for either the traders or buyers," Harry said.
The redevelopment was also aimed at improving traders' welfare, he said. (41/jun)
