Jakarta (ANTARA) — Residents of the Haji Nawi Raya area in Cilandak, South Jakarta, have been reporting noise disturbances caused by the construction and operation of a padel court to the relevant authorities since November 2025.

"Construction began in October. We filed reports through JAKI once in November and once in December," said a resident named Idham to journalists at his home in Haji Nawi Raya, Cilandak, Jakarta, on Thursday.

Idham said the padel court was built without any prior consultation with local residents. Moreover, by January the facility had already become busy with activity.

He complained of noise levels exceeding 70 decibels (dB), as well as padel balls landing inside his home.

"Because of that, in January we stepped up our reporting efforts, both through JAKI and through the Jakarta Rapid Response service," he said.

After filing the reports, his side received responses from several agencies including the South Jakarta Sub-department of Public Works, Spatial Planning and Land, the South Jakarta Sub-department of Tourism and Creative Economy, and the South Jakarta Sub-department of Sports.

However, he expressed disappointment that the agencies only sought statements from the court operator rather than from the complainant.

Eventually, Idham filed a report through the 110 emergency line, and on 31 January 2026 the first mediation session was held between the complainant and the operator, with the police serving as mediator. However, no agreement was reached.

"There was no agreement between the two parties because the padel court operator refused to install soundproofing, arguing that their facility already meets international standards and complies with the regulations and requirements for establishing a padel court," he said.

During the session, residents conveyed their demands for the operator to either install soundproofing or cease operations entirely.
