Purwokerto — Cilacap Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman underwent initial questioning at the Banyumas Police Criminal Investigation Unit building following his arrest in a sting operation conducted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in Cilacap, Central Java, on Friday afternoon.

A Banyumas Police officer reported that a tour bus carrying the regent and several officials from the Cilacap Regency government arrived at Banyumas Police headquarters in Purwokerto around 4:15 p.m. local time and immediately entered the Criminal Investigation Unit building.

“Usually when the KPK conducts operations, they borrow police facilities in the nearest regency or city for conducting initial questioning,” the police personnel explained.

During observations, several Cilacap regency officials, including Regional Secretary Sadmoko Danardono, were seen leaving the Criminal Investigation Unit around 5:05 p.m. to perform the Asr prayer at Banyumas Police headquarters’ mosque. When approached by reporters, Sadmoko merely smiled whilst walking to the mosque accompanied by Banyumas Police personnel.

Around 5:20 p.m., Sadmoko and several other Cilacap regency officials returned to the Criminal Investigation Unit building after completing the Asr prayer. When questioned by reporters regarding the case involving the Cilacap regent, the regional secretary declined to comment, stating simply: “Let us see how it unfolds.”

Previously, the KPK confirmed the arrest of Cilacap Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman in its ninth sting operation of 2026, which also marked the third arrest during Ramadhan 1447 H. KPK Deputy Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto confirmed the arrest when contacted by reporters on Friday from Jakarta.

Under Indonesia’s Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), the KPK has 24 hours from the arrest to determine the official status of those detained in the sting operation, including the Cilacap regent, who serves as a regional head in Central Java Province.
