Cilacap Regent Syamsul Faces 7-Year Prison Sentence in Extortion Case
The suspended Regent of Cilacap, Syamsul Aulia Rachman, faces a prison sentence of seven years in connection with the extortion of subordinates amounting to Rp 568 million. He is also required to pay restitution of Rp 568 million.
“Sentencing the defendant Syamsul Aulia Rahman to seven years of imprisonment,” stated Hidayatic Nurudin, the public prosecutor from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), at the Semarang Corruption Court on Tuesday (29/09/2026).
The prosecutor assessed that Syamsul was proven legally and convincingly to have committed acts of corruption in conjunction with Sadmoko, as regulated under Article 12 letter E of the Law on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption.
The prosecution is also demanding a fine of Rp 400 million from Syamsul, which, if unpaid, will be replaced by 120 days of imprisonment. Furthermore, the prosecutor requested an additional penalty in the form of restitution amounting to Rp 568 million, taking into account any funds already seized.
“Imposing an additional penalty on the defendant Syamsul Aulia Rachman in the form of revoking his right to be elected to public office for three years after the defendant has completed his primary sentence,” the prosecutor continued.
The prosecution explained that the demand is based on Syamsul’s position as the Regent of Cilacap, who was directly elected by the people. According to the prosecutor, this position granted Syamsul public trust and authority within the local government.
“This is to prevent the executive institution of the Cilacap Regency Government, or other public offices, from potentially being run by individuals who have been convicted of corruption,” the prosecutor added.
