Both were designated as suspects following 24-hour interrogations after being caught in a KPK sting operation.
“Based on sufficient evidence of alleged corruption involving extortion and other unlawful receipts within Cilacap Regency Government in Central Java, the KPK has elevated this matter to the investigation phase and named two suspects,” said Asep Guntur Rahayu, Deputy for Enforcement and Execution at the KPK, during a press conference at KPK headquarters in South Jakarta on Saturday, 14 March 2026.
“Firstly, AUL as Cilacap Regent for the 2025-2030 term; secondly, SAD as Regional Secretary of Cilacap Regency,” he added.
Asep stated that both Regent Syamsul and Regional Secretary Sadmoko have been immediately detained. The initial detention period is 20 days.
“The KPK has ordered the detention of the suspects for the first 20 days from 14 March until 2 April 2026. Detention will be held at the State Detention Centre (Rutan) at the KPK’s Red and White Building,” Asep explained.
The suspects are charged with violating Article 12 letter e and/or Article 12B of Law No. 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Corruption Offences as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001 concerning Eradication of Corruption Offences, in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.
