Cilacap Regent Detained by KPK in Orange Vest and Handcuffs
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) immediately detained Cilacap Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman following his arrest in a sting operation (OTT) concerning allegations of extortion. Syamsul was seen wearing an orange detention vest with both hands shackled.
During monitoring at the KPK’s Red and White Building on Saturday (14 March 2026), Regent Syamsul was observed being led down from the second-floor interrogation room. The regent descended wearing an orange vest with shackled hands alongside Cilacap District Regional Secretary Sadmoko Danardono, who had also been designated as a suspect.
When being escorted to the detention vehicle, Regent Syamsul provided no explanation whatsoever. Both Syamsul and Regional Secretary Sadmoko immediately entered the detention vehicle.
Previously, the KPK had designated Cilacap Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman (AUL) and Cilacap District Regional Secretary Sadmoko Danardono (SAD) as suspects in the alleged extortion case. Both were designated as suspects following 24-hour interrogation after being caught in the sting operation.
“Based on sufficient evidence regarding the alleged corruption offence related to extortion and other unlawful receipts within the Cilacap District Government in Central Java, the KPK has escalated this matter to the investigation phase and designated two suspects,” said KPK Deputy for Prosecution and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu during a press conference at KPK headquarters in South Jakarta on Saturday (14 March 2026).
“Namely, firstly Mr. AUL as Regent of Cilacap for the 2025-2030 period; secondly, Mr. SAD as Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Cilacap District,” he continued.
Asep stated that Regent Syamsul and Regional Secretary Sadmoko were immediately detained. Detention was ordered for the initial 20 days.
“The KPK has consequently ordered the detention of the suspects for the initial 20 days from 14 March until 2 April 2026. Detention will be held at the State Detention House (Rutan) at the KPK’s Red and White Building,” Asep clarified.
For their actions, the suspects have been charged with violating Article 12 letter e and/or Article 12B of Law Number 31 Year 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Offences as amended by Law Number 20 Year 2001 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Offences and Article 20 letter c of Law No. 1 Year 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.
