Cilacap Regent Caught in KPK Sting Operation from Which Party?
Cilacap Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman has been apprehended in a Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) sting operation on suspicion of bribery in a project case. A hajj quota case is estimated to have caused state losses of Rp622 billion.
Syamsul Auliya Rachman is a core member and key figure of the National Awakening Party (PKB). Not merely a member, Syamsul holds a strategic position as head of the PKB’s District Executive Board (Dewan Tanfidz DPC) for Cilacap District for the 2021-2026 term.
His political career within the PKB has been notably successful. Under his leadership, the PKB became a major political force in Cilacap, successfully building a broad coalition alongside Golkar, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the Democratic Party, and the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) to win the 2024 Cilacap Regent Election.
Born in Cilacap on 30 November 1985, Syamsul pursued bureaucratic education, graduating from the Institute of Domestic Administration (IPDN) in 2008. Before fully entering politics, he was a civil servant who began his career from the bottom.
In the simultaneous regional elections in November 2024, Syamsul Auliya Rachman ran alongside Ammy Amalia Fatma Surya (a Golkar Party cadre). This pair secured a significant victory with 414,533 votes, approximately 43.81%, defeating three other candidate pairs. He was officially inaugurated as Cilacap Regent on 20 February 2025.
The current Deputy Regent of Cilacap is Ammy Amalia Fatma Surya, a politician from the Golkar Party. She attended primary and secondary education in Cilacap and graduated from IPDN in the 2004-2008 intake.
According to the latest Wealth Statement Report (LHKPN) as of January 2026, Syamsul’s gross wealth is recorded at approximately Rp12 billion, with net wealth (after deducting debts) of Rp11.9 billion.
Following the KPK sting operation in Cilacap, Central Java, Cilacap District Administration officials including Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman were questioned at the Banyumas Police Criminal Investigation Unit.
Previously, on 13 March 2026, the KPK announced the ninth sting operation of 2026 and the third during Ramadan.
The KPK has 24 hours to determine the legal status of those apprehended in the sting operation, including the Cilacap Regent.
