Cilacap Regent Caught in KPK Sting Operation

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has conducted another surprise sting operation (OTT). In the covert operation, KPK investigators arrested Cilacap Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman. Syamsul is known as a PKB politician.

“That is correct,” confirmed Deputy Chairman of the KPK Fitroh Rohcahyanto, verifying the sting operation on Friday (13 March 2026).

However, Fitroh declined to explain the charges facing the Cilacap Regent. The KPK also has not yet disclosed which other individuals were arrested in the operation. The KPK has a maximum timeframe of 24 hours within which to determine the legal status of those arrested in the sting operation.

Profile of Syamsul Auliya Rachman:

In the 2024 Cilacap Regent Election, Syamsul registered himself as a candidate for Cilacap Regent for the 2025–2030 term alongside Golkar politician Ammy Amalia Fatma Surya. The Syamsul-Ammy pair won the Cilacap Regent Election after obtaining 414,533 votes, representing 43.81 per cent of the total valid votes cast.

Syamsul served as Chairman of the Tanfidz Council of the PKB Cilacap District Board for the 2021–2026 period. He previously served as Deputy Regent of Cilacap (2017–2022).

Syamsul completed his education at State Elementary School Tritih Wetan 1 (1992–1998), State Junior High School 5 Cilacap (1998–2001), State Senior High School 1 Cilacap (2001–2004), and finally at the Institute of Domestic Government (IPDN) (2004–2008).

Armed with an IPDN diploma, Syamsul worked as a civil servant, serving as Head of Social Order and Public Tranquillity Section in Kedungreja District (2012–2013) and as Head of Subdivision for Regional Autonomy and Cooperation in the Government Affairs Division of Cilacap Regent Government (2013–2016). Syamsul is married to a woman named Ira Tanti.
