Cikuray Train Service Serves 2.2 Million Passengers by April 2026
JAKARTA - With the longest journey fare for the Garut-Pasar Senen route set at Rp45,000, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) continues to provide a subsidised economic-class train service, known as Public Service Obligation (PSO), via the Cikuray train.
This service offers an affordable transport option for intercity travel, catering to students, workers, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), traders, and tourists.
Passenger numbers have grown consistently in recent years. On the Garut-Pasar Senen route (Train 299), passenger numbers surged from 157,735 in 2022 to 272,648 in 2023, a 72.85% increase. This rose to 305,959 in 2024 and reached 313,926 in 2025. In 2024, passenger numbers increased to 285,130 and rose to 301,797 throughout 2025. Overall, the Cikuray train has served 2,014,844 passengers between 2022 and 2025.
From January to April 2026, passenger numbers reached 211,498, comprising 107,459 for the Garut-Pasar Senen route and 104,039 for the Pasar Senen-Garut route.
KAI Corporate Communication Vice President Anne Purba stated that the rising passenger trend highlights the Cikuray train’s growing role in community mobility across serviced regions.
She added that the service not only supports inter-regional connectivity but also expands access to safe, comfortable, and affordable transport for the public.
“The Cikuray train connects many stories in one journey. Students travel to big cities like Jakarta for education, workers commute to their workplaces, tourists enjoy Garut’s beauty at affordable fares, and people travel to meet family and relatives,” Purba said in an official statement on Sunday, 31 May 2026.
