Morning air in Garut always brings a characteristic atmosphere. Rice fields, vegetable gardens, and mountains form part of the daily life of the local community.

From this fertile region, various activities begin early. Farmers harvest crops, traders prepare goods, and some residents start journeys to other cities.

Amidst this mobility, the Cikuray train service has emerged as a key transport option. This government-subsidised public service obligation (PSO) train, under the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation, provides more accessible travel.

Public interest in the Cikuray train has continued to grow positively. On the Garut-Pasar Senen route (Train 299), passenger numbers rose from 157,735 in 2022 to 272,648 in 2023, a 72.85% increase. Similarly, the Pasar Senen-Garut route (Train 300) saw passenger numbers climb from 135,530 in 2022 to 242,119 in 2023, a 78.65% rise. In 2024, passenger numbers increased further to 285,130 (17.77% growth), reaching 301,797 in 2025 (5.85% growth). Cumulatively, the Cikuray service has served 2,014,844 passengers from 2022 to 2025. By April 2026, total passengers reached 2,226,342.

Anne Purba, KAI’s Vice President of Corporate Communications, stated that this growth highlights the train’s growing role in regional mobility. “The Cikuray train service connects many stories in a single journey. It serves students travelling to major cities like Jakarta for education, workers commuting to their jobs, tourists exploring Garut’s beauty at affordable fares, and families visiting relatives.”

The service operates 12 stations: Garut, Cibatu, Leles, Kiaracondong, Bandung, Cimahi, Purwakarta, Cikampek, Karawang, Cikarang, Bekasi, and Pasar Senen.
