Cikini Subdistrict Beautifies Gang Guru Demar with Murals and Plants
The Cikini subdistrict is beautifying the area on Jalan Kali Pasir, Gang Guru Demar, RT 15/RW 01, Cikini, Menteng, Central Jakarta, with murals and plants to create a clean, tidy and comfortable environment for residents.
Ruly, Head of the Economic and Development Section of Cikini Subdistrict, said the beautification project began in July and is targeted for completion in September.
“We started last July and the target is to finish by next September. Around 10 PPSU workers are helping with this project, with the main focus being the creation of murals,” Ruly said in Jakarta on Monday.
Ruly said the work is being carried out along a 150-metre stretch on both sides of Gang Guru Demar. Previously, he said, the walls facing residents’ homes were covered in graffiti.
The design is L-shaped, with murals as the main element, complemented by plants placed on shelves and in pots that have been provided.
Ruly hopes residents will help maintain the results by not littering and by paying attention to the placement of motorcycles so as not to disturb the newly arranged environment.
“Going forward, it will also be filled with plants. We will collaborate with the KPKP Sub-department for a nutrition pond and also the Parks and Urban Forest Sub-department to fill the shelves and pots with plants,” he said.
Meanwhile, Boyke Pinontoan, Head of RT 15/RW 01, said residents support the beautification project because it can transform Gang Guru Demar into a cleaner and more attractive area.
He hopes the beautification programme can be carried out sustainably so that the environment in Central Jakarta becomes increasingly clean, well-organised, and has attractive public spaces for the community.
“I hope it is painted with striking colours and good images, so that in the future it becomes a spot for selfie photos,” Boyke said.
