JAKARTA — As the Islamic Eid al-Fitr celebration approaches, sales of parcels and hampers are increasingly visible across various parts of the city, including streets and markets.

In the Cikini Kramat area, adjacent to Cikini Market in Central Jakarta, rows of seasonal parcel sellers’ stalls have been appearing since the beginning of Ramadhan.

Based on observations at the location on Monday, 9 March 2026, the pavement along the street has transformed into a kind of “gallery” of Eid gift packages. Dozens of tents with blue and red tarpaulins stand in rows, displaying various parcels with striking packaging dominated by gold, green, and pink colours.

Several vendors appeared busy assembling ordered packages, whilst others rearranged their products to make them more attractive to potential customers browsing the stalls.

The atmosphere at the location was not yet entirely crowded, but commercial activity was beginning to pick up. A woman who stopped at one of the stalls pointed to a parcel containing ceramic plates.

“How much is this one, sir?” she asked the vendor.

“That one is IDR418,000, madam. It already comes with a plate set and cake,” replied the vendor, showing the contents of the package through clear plastic.

Nearby, another customer compared two packages with similar appearances.

“What’s the difference between this one and that one?” she asked.

The vendor explained that the difference lay in the type of plates and the amount of food inside the package.

“This one has bigger plates, and it comes with extra chocolate,” he said.

Such small conversations could be heard at several stalls. Banners with Eid greetings were hung at almost every stall, complete with phone numbers that could be contacted for orders.

In this area, dozens of sellers offered various types of parcels with a wide range of prices.

Some sold simple packages containing light snacks, whilst others offered luxury packages with ceramic tableware sets and premium cakes.

Whereas Eid parcels were once synonymous with rotan baskets containing biscuits, syrup, and dried cakes, their appearance is now far more diverse. Along the sellers’ stalls, the trend of parcels with tableware or cutlery sets is quite dominant.

Ceramic plate sets with cherry blossom motifs, Middle Eastern ornaments, and Islamic geometric designs are paired with gold-coloured spoons and forks.

A customer who came with her child appeared interested in a parcel with a ceramic teapot and cup set.

“This looks nice too. How much is this one?” she said whilst pointing to a gold-green package.

The vendor answered that the package was priced at around IDR538,000 because it contained a complete beverage set.

“This one is slightly cheaper, IDR428,000. The difference is in the type of plates,” said the vendor whilst comparing two packages placed side by side.
