Cikarang Man 'Taufik Hidayat' Named Suspect for Torturing Girlfriend, Faces 5 Years in Prison

Police have named a suspect in the case of ‘Taufik Hidayat’ from Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, West Java, a man with the initial S who confined and assaulted his girlfriend, identified by the initial TS, aged 25. He faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

Acting Metro Bekasi Police Chief, Commissioner Ikhlas Putro Wasono, detailed the charges during a press conference on Tuesday. ‘Article 466 paragraph 1 states that anyone who commits assault is punishable by a maximum of two years and six months imprisonment or a category three fine of up to 50 million rupiah,’ he said. ‘Article 466 paragraph 2 states that if the act referred to in paragraph 1 results in serious injury, the perpetrator is punishable by a maximum of five years imprisonment. Finally, Article 466 paragraph 3 states that if the act results in death, the perpetrator is punishable by a maximum of seven years imprisonment.’

Police explained the motive behind the abuse. The suspect became enraged after learning that his girlfriend was seeing another man, leading to an argument and her subsequent confinement. ‘The perpetrator found out that the victim was still seeing another man, and from that moment, after the argument, the victim was not allowed to leave her boarding room,’ the police chief stated.

The suspect was arrested in the East Jakarta area. ‘He was arrested last night around 1 a.m. at a friend’s residence in East Jakarta,’ said Metro Bekasi Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head, AKBP Jerico Chandra, on Saturday. The case echoes a similar incident in Bandung, West Java, involving a man named Taufik Hidayat who also assaulted his girlfriend and is currently being processed by the law.
