Cigarette salesperson becomes victim of theft in Cengkareng, West Jakarta
A cigarette salesperson named Suci suffered losses amounting to millions of rupiah after several packs of cigarettes and Rp3 million in cash were stolen by a thief in the Cengkareng area of West Jakarta on Tuesday (4/8). The theft case involving the cigarette salesperson went viral after being uploaded on social media. The victim’s niece, Putri Aulia, said the theft incident occurred around 8.00 p.m. Western Indonesia Time when her aunt was about to collect payment at a stall. “So the motorbike was parked in front of the stall. My aunt was collecting payment, and then her bag was taken,” said Putri when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday. Putri conveyed that the perpetrator, who appeared to be acting alone, snatched the victim’s bag which was placed on the victim’s motorbike. “Inside there were several cartons of cigarettes and Rp3 million in cash. The money was for deposit money,” she said. “The economic situation is also like this now (uncertain), and then she gets a misfortune like that. She also still has a child in junior high school, and her husband does odd jobs,” she added. The family has reported the theft case to the police. Viral CCTV footage uploaded by the Instagram account @warga.jakbar shows the perpetrator, wearing a hoodie and cap, walking and spotting the victim’s bag lying on the motorbike seat. Seeing the opportunity, the perpetrator then snatched the bag and fled the location. When confirmed separately, the Criminal Investigation Unit Head of Cengkareng Police, AKP Parman Gultom, said he was still examining the police report made by the victim. “We are checking it first,” said Gultom.
