Cigarette advertisements
From Koran Tempo
It seems that, for the sake of money, you can do anything in Jakarta. Look at what has been done by cigarettes producers such as Jarum, Gudang Garam and Star Mild. They have placed advertisements for their products by pasting posters of their products on walls in public places, bridges and even on the walls of private houses. The publisher of Lisa magazine also does the same thing, not to mention a variety of large banners that are placed seemingly at will in public places.
All of this has made Jakarta look messy, and all the efforts of the Jakarta administration to tidy up the city seem fruitless. I wish to call on the parties concerned to take a more responsible attitude toward their thoughtless actions.
I wonder why the Jakarta administration hasn't done anything about it? In the past, the provincial government strongly prohibited graffiti and all forms of vandalism in Jakarta, which was the work of students. Nowadays the government seems to be tolerant of posters placed by big companies.
If these inappropriate advertisements were controlled properly, the Jakarta administration could provide special sites, in the form of one-by-three meter illuminated boxes, in which companies could advertise their products, as has been done by the German government in Berlin and Munich.
