'Cici' and 'Koko' contest on Saturday

JAKARTA: The final contest of Chinese beauty pageants, the first of its kind in Indonesian history, would be held at Glodok Plasa in West Jakarta, on Saturday, an organizer said on Thursday.

There are 32 participants in the final of popularly known as Cici and Koko contest, Ernawati Sugondo, chairwoman of the organizing committee, was quoted by BeritaJakarta.com.

Koko means brother, while cici sister.

Ernawati said the event was held in effort to introduce Chinese culture to other Jakarta residents here.

Besides the Cici and Koko contest, lion dance (barongsay) would also be featured, she said.

The event was aimed at attracting both local and foreign tourists to visit Glodok area, which is also dubbed as an old Chinatown, she said.

West Jakarta mayor Sarimun Hadisaputra would also present in the event, she said. --JP
