Cicadas Street Vendor Kiosks Cleared, Traders Opt for Self-Dismantling
Dozens of kiosks belonging to street vendors in Cicadas, Bandung, have been subject to enforcement actions by the West Java and Bandung City Municipal Police (Satpol PP) since Monday (18/05/2026). Following the initial enforcement, other traders have opted to dismantle their own kiosks independently to facilitate the resale of the materials.
Observations on the scene showed numerous traders and labourers breaking down kiosks situated on the pavement into smaller components. A t-shirt vendor in Cicadas, Asep, admitted he decided to dismantle his kiosk himself after witnessing the authorities clearing other stalls. He noted that he had only recently become aware of the enforcement action.
“I am confused about where I will sell my goods now,” he stated on Wednesday (20/05/2026). He added that while he has secured his merchandise, his future plans remain uncertain as he has not yet received any official socialisation or guidance regarding the relocation process. “Since they started dismantling, I decided to just handle the dismantling myself. I am just following suit.”
