Cianjur Regency, West Java, is preparing to face the potential dry season, especially readiness in the agricultural sector, which is predicted to be affected.

Regent of Cianjur, Mohammad Wahyu Ferdian, stated that the local government has discussed the potential for a prolonged dry season that needs to be anticipated early, considering the need for strategic steps to minimise its impact.

“According to predictions, La Niña will soon end. Now it’s shifting to El Niño. We have discussed this far in advance. We are preparing to face a dry season that is expected to be quite extreme,” said Wahyu recently.

One of the strategic steps that the local government will take is preparing to meet the stock of water supply needs for agricultural land. This includes preparing irrigation infrastructure.

“The impact of the dry season usually affects the potential for agricultural land drought, clean water crisis for the community, and potential forest and land fires,” he explained.

In addition to irrigation, in the agricultural sector, particularly for paddy fields, quality seeds and fertiliser availability also need to be prepared. Currently, the local government is compiling a study related to the anticipatory steps that will be taken.

“Currently, we are making a study and next it may issue a circular letter,” he said.

Cianjur Regency is also mapping several areas that are prone to drought during the dry season. These include Cilaku Subdistrict, Cibeber, Sukaluyu, and several other areas.

“There are areas in Cianjur that are regular drought areas every dry season,” he concluded.
