Some flights in several countries have been closed, so the Indonesian government is currently seeking to redirect Indonesian citizens (WNI) to countries that still have open flights. Cianjur Regency, West Java, is endeavouring to coordinate with the Republic of Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) to accelerate the repatriation of residents from Cianjur who remain trapped by the conflict in the Middle East.

Cianjur Regent Mohammad Wahyu Ferdian in Cianjur, on Thursday, said they continue to compile the number of Cianjur residents stranded due to the conflict in the Middle East, including migrant workers from Cianjur who are requesting to be repatriated as soon as possible.

“We continue daily communication with the Ministry to seek updates and the latest developments of the conflict that is still ongoing, in the hope there will be a swift solution to repatriate Cianjur residents working in the Middle East,” he said.

Alongside the ongoing conflict, he asked residents who had already registered to travel for Umrah to the holy lands to postpone their pilgrimage for the time being until conditions in the Middle East are safe and normal.

“Some flights in several countries have been closed, so the Indonesian government is currently trying to redirect Indonesian citizens (WNI) to countries that still have open flights,” he said.

He hopes the conflict ends soon and does not drag on, with no casualties among Indonesians, especially those from Cianjur, and that repatriation can be effected in the near future to avoid any undesirable outcomes.

He even emphasised that data collection will cover all people from Cianjur returning to Indonesia, including those who went abroad to work illegally or outside procedures, because they are all from Cianjur and hope to go home when a conflict occurs in the host country.

“All of them will be documented, including those who went illegally because they are still WNI from Cianjur; we hope in the future there will be no more migrant workers leaving illegally to facilitate data gathering,” he said.
