Cianjur Government Demolishes 23 Illegal Structures on Bandung-Cianjur Road

The Cianjur Regency Government in West Java has demolished 23 illegal structures on the Bandung-Cianjur Highway in Ciranjang District because they lacked permits for semi-permanent kiosks and were frequently used for alcohol-fuelled parties.

Head of Cianjur Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) Djoko Purnomo said on Sunday that the demolition was carried out after receiving reports from residents who felt disturbed by these activities, compounded by the daily accumulation of rubbish dumped at the site.

Most of the demolished kiosks were no longer in use or were empty, so the demolition proceeded after it was confirmed they had no permits, as they were deemed to spoil the scenery and disturb public order.

“We involved dozens of joint personnel consisting of Cianjur Satpol PP, Cianjur Transportation Agency, Cianjur Fire Service, and the TNI/Polri. All the demolished structures were unlicensed, or illegal,” he said.

He explained that most of the semi-permanent kiosk structures were built without permits and stood on the national road reserve. They were no longer operating but had become venues for alcohol-fuelled parties and illegal dumping sites.

Djoko stated that the enforcement against unlicensed illegal structures along Cianjur’s main routes will continue in order to suppress negative activities that disturb residents, including eliminating the habit of littering.

He also urged residents along the main routes not to erect structures carelessly, as any violations will certainly be demolished to remove the slum-like impression, especially at the entry points to Cianjur town.

“The enforcement is carried out to prevent negative activities and create beauty in every corner of the city, from the outer city routes to the inner city of Cianjur. After the demolition, arrangement will be carried out by the relevant agencies,” he said.

He even appealed to owners of illegal structures along Cianjur’s main routes to demolish their own buildings before they are enforced against, as they stand in prohibited locations without permits.

“We will continue to enforce against illegal structures so they are not misused and disturb surrounding residents. Please demolish them yourselves or they will be demolished by officers,” Djoko said.
